El Fasher Campaign Report 2008 | Print |
Posted by Katherine
2008, UNFPA - In the struggle to end obstetric fistula, the fistula centre of the El Fasher Specialised Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the State Ministry of Health organised a surgery campaign from 18th February – 5th March 2008.  Sixty-four women from all over Darfur were screened and 40 were eligible and underwent fistula surgery.  Thirty-nine 39 (97.5%) out of the forty women had successful repair, while one (2.5%) complained of orthostatic urinary incontinence at discharge. It is recommended that preventive measures for obstetric fistula, including timely response to obstetric emergencies, the training and monitoring of skilled birth attendants at the primary
health care level, and family planning practice be emphasized.
